Important Announcement-Reopening May 20, 2020 by Appointment Only 

We are please to announce the reopening of the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum and the Citrus County Archives. The museum will be reopening on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, by appointment. Please call 352-341-6428 to make reservations. 
The museum will be scheduleding tours at 10:00, 11:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00, Monday through Friday, with special senior tours at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Family tours will be 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. 

The museum will be under temporary guidelines for the health and safety of our visitors, volunteers, and staff. This includes limited occupancy to groups of 6 or less per appointment, practicing social distancing, and wearing a mask or face-covering.

Apointments can be  scheduled online at or by calling 352-341-6428 during regular business hours. 

Any current ticket holders for the Music at the Museum concerts can use their tickets for the rescheduled event, or as a credit toward any future concert in 2020.

The safety of our members, guests, and volunteers are our upmost priority. We will keep everyone appraised of the situation and notified when more information becomes available.

Join us on May 7th at 12:00 p.m. for a Facebook Live Coffee and Conversations Event with Dr. Peggy MacDonald. She will be broadcasting live from Micanopy, FL to talk about Marjorie Harris Carr and her contributions to conservation and the State of Florida.

Carr was instrumental in preserving many of the beautiful old oaks in Micanopy and MacDonald would speak to the impact this had on the town as well as larger impacts throughout the state.

The Citrus County Historical Society, Inc. (CCHS, INC.) was originally formed in 1963, and incorporated in 1979. Operating as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, it accepts tax-deductible donation in the active pursuit to "preserve and further the knowledge of the history and pre-history of Citrus County and nearby areas." A copy of the official registration and financial information may be obtained from the Division of Consumer Services by calling toll-free within the state to 1-800-HELP-FLA (435-7352). Registration does not imply endorsement, approval, or recommendation by the state.

Since 1985, the Citrus County Historical Society has been located in The Old 1912 County Courthouse, located at 1 Courthouse Square, Inverness, Florida.
